An Unforeseen Consequence of the Affordable Care Act Is Losing Access To Dermatologists, According To Dr. F. Victor Rueckl

Switching To Medicare Advantage May Cost Patients' Access To Their Dermatologist

The Affordable Care Act was designed to provide access to medical treatment for every individual. To that end, a grand total of 11.4 million Americans signed up for private health insurance by the end of the second enrollment period. (1) This is tremendous news, but there have been some unforeseen consequences associated with the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Money has been taken from Medicare and used for the implementation of the ACA, and there has been some noticeable effects. One such effect is that many people are choosing to opt out of Medicare and go instead with a Medicare Advantage plan. On paper, such a decision looks like a sound one as the premiums may be lower or that their medical options will be expanded, but many are finding out too late that their network of doctors, especially dermatologists, are being restricted.

The reality of modern life is that we're living in a culture that is obsessed with celebrities. Many people follow the lives of various celebrities by reading gossip magazines, watching reality TV shows, and through the use of social media. One of the most popular celebrity clans is the Kardashians, whose recent season premiere episode attracted a total of 2.547 million viewers. (1) While the older sisters of that clan originally made their family a household name, it's the younger Kylie Jenner who has been generating a lot of attention over the last year. One of her key features that people go crazy for is her plump lips, which has led to a Twitter topic where young people attempt to plump their own lips by using a small glass and then sucking. However, this supposed beauty tip can be dangerous, as is attested to by licensed dermatologists, such as Dr. F. Victor Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas.
